Advocacy Forum With Nominated Women Parliamentarians

The Kenyan Section of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ Kenya), convened a successful and interactive lunch meeting with newly nominated women legislators in the 12th Parliament. The meeting reflected on gains, challenges and experiences from the 11th parliament. The lunch meeting followed a civil society consultative forum hosted by ICJ Kenya on promoting affirmative action. The meeting was held on 14 February 2018 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya.

The objectives of the convening were inter alia, discuss the status of implementation of the affirmative action agenda in Parliament, examine policy recommendations with nominated women Legislators in the 12th Parliament and draw lessons from the experiences of the nominated women legislators in the 11th Parliament.

The participants were nominated women legislators from the 12th parliament and the discussions were guided by presentations and plenary discussions. Some of the issues under focus gains, challenges and experiences of nominated women legislators in the 11th parliament. The discussions were informed by a research commissioned by ICJ Kenya in 2014-2015. The meeting was marked with notable success such as bringing together nominated women legislators of the 12th parliament to in good time to learn from experiences of nominated women legislators from the 11th parliament.
