ICJ Kenya hosted its ninth in a series of webinars on human rights and the measures taken to curb the spread of Covid-19. A human rights-based response to Covid-19 will assist in not only dealing with the pandemic effectively but also ensure that all citizens are treated equally and their dignity is respected and preserved. ICJ Kenya advocates for the protection of all human rights, particularly the vulnerable, the marginalized and minority groups, who have borne the brunt of the pandemic.
The topic of the webinar was informed by the need to interrogate the government’s policy interventions in response to COVID-19 against constitutional and human rights obligations.
The panelists and participants discussed the following:
- The various human rights violations occurring during the COVID-19 pandemic;
- The measures taken by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions under the umbrella of National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) to adhere to the rule of law; and
- The challenges and opportunities for civil society organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Based on extensive and highly interactive deliberations guided by thematic experts, the resolutions as contained in the attached Communique were adopted.
