Mr. Njonjo Mue was the Chairman of ICJ Kenya Council from 2015–2017.
Njonjo Mue is a human rights lawyer and transitional justice expert. He has previously worked as Head of Advocacy for the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, Africa Deputy Director of the International Centre for Transitional Justice (ICTJ), Legal Advisor to the Africa Programme of the Freedom of Expression Watchdog, ARTICLE 19, and Regional Director of Panos Eastern Africa. He has also served as Executive Director of Christians for a Just Society (CFJS) and Head of Advocacy at World Vision in Kenya. He is currently a Senior Advisor to Kenyans for Peace with Truth and Justice (KPTJ) and serves as the Chair of the Board of the International Institute for Legislative Affairs. Njonjo received his LLB at the University of Nairobi, and studied law at Jesus College, University of Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He holds several leadership and human rights awards including being named the youngest ever Jurist of the Year by ICJ-Kenya in the year 2000.

Dr. Ken Nyaundi was the Chairman of ICJ Kenya Council from 2013 – 2015. He is a legal practitioner who has distinguished himself in civil litigation, commercial transactions, property, conveyancing and public law, particularly international human rights and constitutional issues. He is also a chartered arbitrator. He serves as the Managing Partner at Marende & Nyaundi Advocate, a law firm in Nairobi. Dr. Nyaundi has undertaken extensive consultancies on International Law, Governance, Devolution and Administration of Justice. He is currently the Team Leader of the Institute for Research and Policy Alternatives (IRPA), a think tank dedicated to matters of public policy and governance. Dr. Nyaundi has served in the public sector in various capacities. He was the founding chairperson of the Media Complaints Commission; a Commissioner with the Interim Independent Electoral Commission; a director of the South – South Centre; a member of the Task Force on Devolved Government; and, a member of the Taskforce on the development of Policies and Legislation to implement article 34 of the Constitution. Presently, he serves as a director of the Coffee Development Fund and a member of the National Land Commission Task Force on historical land injustices. In the professional segment he has served in various committees of the Law Society of Kenya, as the chairperson of the Board of Kituo cha Sheria (Legal Empowerment Centre). He was appointed as a member of the Communications Authority of Kenya Board of Directors in May 2014 for a period of three years. Dr. Nyaundi holds a Master of Laws in Public International Law, from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He is a PhD holder in International Law at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.

[item title=”Mr Albert Kamunde (2009 – 2013)”]
Mr. Albert Kamunde was the Chairman of the ICJ Kenya Council from 2009 to 2013 and he is currently the Managing Advocate and proprietor of Albert Kamunde & Company Advocates. He served as an ICJ Kenya Council Member between 2004 and 2009. He has written for a number of legal publications and appeared on TV and radio programs on matters of human rights, legal aid, the judiciary, family law, and the International Criminal Court. He sits on the board of directors and also serves as Company Secretary for a number of companies. Albert has also represented several clients in civil, family, personal injury claims among others. He is also qualified as a Commissioner for Oaths, Notary Public and a Certified Public Secretary and a counsel on the List of counsel at the International Criminal Court, The Hague, Netherlands, where he has undertaken training on Law and practice of the International Criminal Court. Albert has been an active member of the civil Society. He is also a member of the Law Society of Kenya, East Africa Law Society and Commonwealth Lawyers Association. He holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi and has also attained a certificate on Law and Practice of the International Criminal Court. He was admitted to the Bar in 1996 after which he formed Albert Kamunde and Company Advocates. /p>

[item title=”Mr. Wilfred Nderitu (2005-2009)”]
Wilfred Nderitu was the Chairman of ICJ Kenya from 2005 – 2009. Prior to this, he served as a Council Member from 1999 and 2005 and as Vice-Chair between 2005 and 2009. He is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and was admitted to the roll of Advocates in 1989. Since November 2012, Wilfred had been assigned by the International Criminal Court as the Common Legal Representative for Victims in The Prosecutor -v- William Samoei Ruto and Joshua arap Sang. He previously served with the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda as Lead Counsel in The Prosecutor -v- Simon Bikindi (2002-2007), as Co-Counsel in The Prosecutor -v- Grégoire Ndahimana (2010-2011), and as Amicus Curiae in The Prosecutor -v- Édouard Karemera et al., and in The Prosecutor -v- Casimir Bizimungu et al. (2008-2009). He has also served as Duty Counsel with the International Criminal Court in connection with ensuring the observance of the rights of a potential witness during investigations (Article 55 rights) in The Prosecutor -v- Joseph Kony, Vincent Otti, Raska Lukwiya, Okot Odhiambo and Dominic Ongwen (the LRA case), (2007). Mr. Nderitu is on the List of Qualified Counsel at the International Criminal Court, the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the Special Court for Sierra Leone. Mr Nderitu is currently the Senior Partner at Nderitu & Partners, Advocates, a law firm that he founded in 1996. His areas of practice include, International Criminal and Human Rights Law, especially the Law of Genocide and Crimes against Humanity, Civil and Criminal Litigation, Insurance Law, Banking, Conveyancing, Corporate and Commercial Law. Wilfred holds a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, as well as a Certificate in Conflict Analysis from the United States Institute of Peace. He is also alumnus of the University of Nairobi, from where he graduated with an honours Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree in 1988. He later obtained a post-graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and was thereafter admitted to the Bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1989.

Dr. Otiende Amollo was the Chairman of ICJ Kenya from 2001 to 2005. He is the current Chairperson of the Commission on Administrative Justice (Office of the Ombudsman) is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya of two decades standing, a Notary Public, a Commissioner for Oaths and a Certified Public Secretary. Before appointment to as chair of the Commission on Administrative Justice, he served in the Committee of Experts on Constitutional Review as one of Nine Experts who delivered the Constitution of Kenya 2010. He has also served as Chairman, Secretary and Council member of the International Commission of Jurists (Kenya Section), Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary General and Council Member of the East Africa Law Society, Council Member of The Law Society of Kenya, Chairperson and Board Member of Action Aid International – Kenya, founder Board Member of KELIN, Board member of The Kituo cha Sheria, and in the Boards of various other public and private entities. He was a founder member of the All Africa Human Rights Pressure Group and The Law Forum of the University Of Nairobi. He holds an LL.B (Hons) degree from the University of Nairobi, and an LL.M (Public Law) degree from the same University. He also holds a Diploma and Certificate (Human Rights & Humanitarian Law) from the Kenya School of Law and Lund University respectively. In recognition of his contributions towards equality, fairness and the cause of human rights, he was awarded a Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) by the Senate of the Maseno University in 2014.

[item title=”Mr. Mohammed Nyaoga (1999-2003)”]
Mr. Mohamed Nyaoga was the Chair of ICJ Kenya from 1999-2003. He is the current Board Chairman of the Central Bank of Kenya and the immediate past Vice –Chairman of the Law Reform Commission and was the Chairman of its Business Laws Committee. During his time at ICJ Kenya, he was also the Chairman of the Executive Committee for the Access to Justice and Human Rights in Africa Initiative, a joint project of ICJ Kenya and the Sweden International Programme. Some of his other past work includes being a member of the Commission of Inquiry into the assassination of Robert Ouko, and a member of the Goldenberg Commission that looked into a massive financial scandal. He is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, and is currently the Managing Partner at Mohammed Muigai Advocates. He is highly involved in corporate initiatives, and sits in the board of Capital Markets Authority. In addition he is a certified training consultant in corporate governance with the Commonwealth Association for Corporate Governance. Mr. Nyaoga holds an LLB and LLM degrees from the University of Nairobi and Diploma in law from the Kenya School of Law. He is a Certified Public Secretary (CPS); a Certified Company Director and a member of the London Institute of Directors. He was called to the Bar in 1985.

[item title=”Mr.Kathurima M Inoti (1995 – 1999)”]
Hon. Justice Kathurima M Inoti was ICJ Kenya Chair from 1995 to 1998 and is currently a judge of the Court of Appeal. He is a former lecturer in the Department of Public Law at the University of Nairobi. Justice M’Inoti is also currently a Commissioner of the International Commission of Jurists, Geneva Switzerland. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Association of Law Reform Agencies and a former President of the Association of Law Reform Agencies of Eastern and Southern Africa. M’Inoti served in international missions as a trial observer, election observer and human rights status evaluator for the International Commission of Jurists and Amnesty International. He was awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) and the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) for his contribution to law reform in Kenya. Kathurima M’Inoti holds a Bachelor and Master of law degrees from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.

Prof. Githu Muigai is currently the Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya. Prior to becoming Attorney General Githu Muigai served as a Commissioner in the defunct Constitution of Kenya Review Commission and at the United Nations as Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance. He has researched and published extensively in the areas of international law, constitutional law and human rights and has previously worked as a consultant to various international organizations, including the African Union, UNDP, the World Bank and the ICRC. He was a Senior Lecturer of Public Law at the University of Nairobi and a Commissioner with the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission. He is a former member of the Council of the Law Society of Kenya and a former member it’s Disciplinary Committee. He is a former Director of the Institute of Education in Democracy. His areas of interest and research include International Human Rights and Humanitarian law, civil liberties, criminal law and Constitutional law. Also 2008, he served as a Judge in the African Court of Justice. Prof. Githu Muigai is a lawyer, Associate Professor at the University of Nairobi. He is currently on leave of Absence in order to serve as the AG. Prof. Muigai Assumed office 27 August 2011 as the Attorney General of the republic of Kenya after being appointed by Former President Mwai Kibaki. He holds a Ph.D. in Law from the University of Nairobi and an LLM Degree from Columbia University.

Mr. Charles Nyachae served as ICJ Kenya Chairman from 1991 to 1993. He is the immediate former Chairman of the Constitution of Kenya Implementation Commission – CIC from 2011 to 2016 and currently serves as a Director at Mercantile Insurance Company Ltd. Mr. Charles Nyachae is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and has practiced as such as a partner in the firm of Nyachae & Company advocates. He has practiced Commercial and Property Law for over 26 years. Mr. Nyachae is a former Council Member of the Law Society of Kenya and was also the Chairperson of the Institute for Education and Democracy, IED. He formerly served as a Commissioner with the Kenya Law Review Commission and sits on the board of the Center for Governance & Democracy. He has vast experience in Human Rights, Democracy & Electoral laws.

Judge Lee Muthoga SC was the Chairman of ICJ Kenya from 1988 to 1991. He served as ad litem Judge for the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR). He joined the ICTR in October 2003 in Trial Chamber II. He also sat as chair of the Tribunal’s Case Management Committee. Judge Muthoga was an Advocate and Senior Counsel practicing before the High Court of Kenya and has been in private practice since 1971. He was a founding partner in the firm of Muthoga Gaturu Advocates. He has previously held the offices of Chairman of the Law Society of Kenya, President of the African Bar Association, Chairman of the African Forum of the International Bar Association, and Chairman of the African Network for Prevention of and Protection Against Child Abuse and Neglect. He was also Founder-Director of the Public Law Institute and Director of Liberty International. He was enrolled in the Law Society of Kenya Roll of Honour in 2007. Judge Muthoga holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of East Africa and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Fellow of Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya (ICPS (K)).
