ELECTION TECHNOLOGY AND ELECTORAL JUSTICE IN KENYA

The Kenyan Section of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ Kenya), with the support of Privacy International (PI), implemented a project titled Strengthening Judicial Capacity on Electoral Technology Ahead of the 2022 General Election in Kenya. The project aimed to equip Kenya’s Judiciary with knowledge and strengthen its capabilities in assessing the merit of legal challenges brought to the electoral court involving electoral disputes around the use of technology in elections.

Under the project, ICJ Kenya partnered with Judiciary Committee on Elections and the Kenya Judiciary Academy to conduct a series of trainings for the Judiciary straight from the Magistracy to the Supreme Court.

In the first phase the partnership delivered training workshops for the Judiciary on the use of election technology and how legal procedures need to be adapted to support the assessment of challenges regarding election technology ahead of the General Elections in August 2022.

The second phase sought to encourage policy and legal reforms to ensure the Judiciary is supported to assess the merits of legal challenges/election disputes involving technology.

We are therefore honoured to share the knowledge product in form of the book, Election Technology and Electoral Justice in Kenya.
