“Amendments to Election Laws Unconstitutional,” ICJ Kenya

Moses Okinyi

NAIROBI; 5 OCTOBER 2017 The Kenyan Section of the International Commission of Jurists will not appear before the joint sitting of the National Assembly and Senate committees on Election Laws.

Responding to a letter from Parliament on a request to appear before the Committee, ICJ Kenya said that they will neither appear nor present memorandum of views to the Committees expressing concern over the timing, process and content of the amendment laws before the Joint Committee.

“We are of the considered opinion that the amendments are unconstitutional, not premised on good faith and do not promote the rule of law,” said the letter signed by the Executive Director Mr. Samwel Mohochi.
