ICJ-Kenya calls for papers from numerous authors across the African Region to dissect the topic of Judicial Independence and Accountability with the views and positions of other jurisdictions.
This consultancy aims to develop a comprehensive publication on the Judicial Watch Series with a broad African overview. With all the different legislative and constitutional reviews across the region, the publication shall also recommend strengthening relevant institutions to provide a responsive approach to the issues concerning judicial independence and accountability in Africa.
The series will have different writers address themselves to topics such as the following: –
- The significance of Judicial Independence and Accountability in democratic governance.
- Judicial Independence in relation to judicial funding and the rule of law
- The appointment of judges and executive overreach.
- Political Influence and undue interference of other arms of government
- Judicial role in other concerning issues i.e. Human Rights, Electoral Processes and public trust.
- Judiciary against authoritarian regimes in Africa.
- Judiciary under threat: Nuanced ways to weaken Judiciaries across Africa.
- The relationship (clashes) between accountability and Judicial Independence.
- The role of Judicial Commissions in fostering Judicial Independence: Is the employer culpable for a weakened judiciary?
How To Apply
The authors or prospective contributors should first submit a 300-500 words abstract. Thereafter, the invitation to develop full papers will be issued to the shortlisted candidates.
