Since its inception, there has been a great deal of prognostication about the role and goals of the International Criminal Court – ICC, increasing backlash against the ICC at African Union meetings and by African governments.
A section of African leaders keep arguing that it is fixated on Africa because its cases (the Kenya, Ivory Coast, Liberia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, Sudan and Uganda) all concern alleged crimes against African victims in relation to its role in strengthening democratic principles and fostering the conditions that lead to a peaceful, stable, and economically strong Africa.
